October 18: Sarah Jones is an amazing young actress/writer who should not be missed. She will be joined by Teen Poetry Slam Champion Chinaka Hodge in Generations: Celebrating the Possibilities of Language at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.
 

October 26-28: Two of the finest writer/performers in the universe--David Cale and Anne Galjour--will be reading a new collaborative work, Stars at Night, at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. (Q&As with director David Dower 10/26 & 10/28 performances.)
  


October 12: Check out the country-rock stylings of Uncle Boyd's Sawmill this Saturday night at 9:00 p.m. at Behan's Irish Pub, 1327 Broadway Avenue in Burlingame (650.344.0265).

 

10/17-11/3: Z Space Santa Cruz Theater Festival featuring Josh Kornbluth, Charlie Varon, and Nina Wise + Annie Kunjappy on Halloween with a performance worth dressing up for!!

October 25-26: Ani DiFranco has promised to astonish us again with her solo musical performance at The Paramount Theater in Oakland!


October 31- November 16: See the hilarious, demented creativity of San Francisco's Thunderbird Theater Company in action with their new musical extravaganza: Rocket Girl!

 

November 2: We will be enjoying Pt. Reyes and the ocean this weekend, but we highly recommend the reunited, spirited sounds of The Soft Boys at Slim's.

10/11-13: The Mill Valley Film Festival wraps up this weekend and we could not resist:

Friday: 5@5: And How I Hoped for Your Love (Shorts) and Two by Forman (documentaries on the making of Amadeus and One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest).

Saturday: Fading to Light, A Scandinavian Salute (best Norwegian shorts from the past twenty five years--DMD guarantees a great program), and The Slaughter Rule (with David Cale in the cast).

Sunday: Two films about youth and the power of arts: OT: Our Town (Compton high school students perform Our Town) and A Place Named Destiny (Oakland youth performance art group).

 

10/4-12: 13th Annual Black Filmworks – Festival of Film and Video

10/17: Lunafest Film Festival benefit for breast cancer at Mills College in Oakland; 10/19 at UC Santa Cruz.

10/17-24: Oakland International Film Festival including Promises, Long Nights Journey Into Day, Señorita Extraviada, and The Kornbluth Brothers Haiku Tunnel!

11/1-12: Arab Film Festival promises to be an intriguing collection of films showing at the Roxie, the Fine Arts Cinema, and the Castro.

11/13-17: Film Arts Foundation Film Festival guaranteed to showcase talented local filmmakers.
