VOTE!!!

Not nearly enough of us voted in the gubernatorial election and too few are expected to vote in the mayoral runoff. Regardless of your choice, please do contribute to democracy and vote when you can!!

Monday Night MATTinee: A Film and Video Benefit for Matt Gonzalez Co-presented with the SF IndieFest, Monday December 1st, StudioZ.tv 314 11th Street (@ Folsom) $10 - $25 sliding scale, no one turned away for lack of funds

We are not just recommending Matt Gonzalez because Jonathan Richman and he are mutual fans of each other, but because we believe he would be a positive change away from politics as usual in SF, and a great victory for the Green Party as well. But regardless of who you plan to vote for, do vote if you can!!

More Matt Gonzalez events!

Melissa Levine brings her writing and acting talents to The Monday Night Marsh!

Monday, December 8th, 8pm
The Marsh, 1062 Valencia Street (in SF), between 21st and 22nd
Admission: $7

Note from Melissa: "Hello, Friends. As many of you know, I have been working on a one-woman show for nearly a year now. And in a few short weeks, I'll have another opportunity to perform a slice of it in front of raving hordes. Or, you know, about seventy-five people. And you're invited! It's a class performance -- i.e., 8 people will perform, each for about 15 minutes. Our class is blessed with a whole lotta talent, so it should be a great show. Fyi, I'll be doing a portion of the subplot of my show, involving the continuing misadventures of my 14-year-old self. And a boy. And some other things. All depending. On things I'm not sure about yet. But will be soon. So don't you worry. The Marsh is easily accessed by BART (get off at 24th and Mission and walk down Valencia a few blocks). I hope to see you there! "

Also, catch Melissa Levine's excellent film reviews in the East Bay Express and other associated weeklies around the country or online here!

Another DMDCAF community member, Stephen Mirrione, has an emotionally challenging new film now playing everywhere! 21 Grams is written and directed by Amores Perros director Alejandro González Iñárritu and edited by UC Santa Cruz alumnus and editor of Thirteen Conversations About One Thing, Traffic, Go, Tribute, Clockwatchers, Getting In, Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Oceans Eleven, and Swingers.

"...the fractured story in "21 Grams" rushes along like a runaway train. Soderbergh's sometimes-editor Stephen Mirrione cut this film, and his work here is superlative." --LA Times

Solo Performance

La Val’s Subterranean Theatre in Berkeley
Admission: $6.00
RSVP to soloshow1228@yahoo.com
or just show up at the door!

The critics are raving about this show:

Crowther Blaine – The Bug Tussle Picayune
“Jackie who?”

Millicent Turnipseed – Rural Route 1 Bugle
“Jackie’s infectious humor is like, well, an infection.”

Hugo Smiley – North Nether Regions Journal
“An evening with Jackie is like a bus trip with your smelly, drunk brother-in-law, you hope the ride never ends!"

David Sedaris – an extremely discerning individual
“The black female me”

We can't make all three shows, but we will be there Saturday night and strongly recommend a great play presented by a great school at a terrific venue directed by an incredible teacher!!!!

Word for Word celebrates its 10th Anniversary with
Oil! Chapter One: The Ride, directed by Delia MacDougal
The Magic Theater, Fort Mason Center, Building D, San Francisco
through December 7 the first chapter of Upton Sinclair's sweeping California epic chronicling the tumultuous oil boom and how it altered the course of California history. OIL! - Chapter One: "The Ride" barrels the viewer into a thrilling drive across the California terrain, mined with Sinclair's prescient observations of the political as well as geographic clime of California a century ago. The set for OIL! is an award-winning metal sculpture based upon a 1912 Stearns automobile, and built as an interactive kinetic piece by sculptor Oliver DiCicco.
