Thanks to all that made it to our various 30 View Lane Events so far this summer: June 23rd Graduation Performance (sneak preview now available here), Our Maui 2002 Reunion with MMS Alumni, and our August 3rd bball / frisbee / swim / Zachary's / big screen viewing of We Remember Maui 2002 (special thanks to John Diller for the projection)!! It was great to see all of you and we hope to see you all again here on September 1 or elsewhere throughout the year!!!

David is about to have made it through another year of life, and oh my what a year! From college drop out to graduate in one year-long blink of the eye. Just ten years tardy. Most impressive of all, he completed his final graduation requirement of performing a dance routine with the aid of Candice, Jon, and JoAnn on June 23, 2002! The future is wide open I suppose, but for now I have landed fortuitously in the Regional Oral History Office of the University of California at Berkeley, where I will be transcribing oral histories, updating their web site, and generally learning everything I can about the art and science of oral history--as it keenly relates to the vast majority of my interests! Substitute teaching experimentation has not been ruled out, so keep those "How to Survive Substitute Teaching" tips coming--I will surely try and need them all!!!

Candice is days away from beginning her fourth official year as a real live teacher! I am very excited to teach 8th grade U.S. History for the first time. This is what I have been wanting to teach and I finally get my chance. Please share any ideas you may have about teaching U.S. History. Candice is also eager to announce that the literature/education portion of DMDCAF Update will be going live with our September edition--so please send us your suggestions! It should be an expansive, interactive portion of this site. It will definitely include on line lesson plans and discussions, literature/non-fiction recommendations from us and all of you, and information about the exciting James Burke/Patrick McKercher K-Web project (we just saw an excellent (albeit fast paced, English accented) talk by James Burke on 8/4).

We did make it to a lot great entotainment and cultural events in July and we definitely enjoyed sharing many of them with our friends and loved ones. Dar Williams's passionate performance at what was possibly our last trip to the Palms Playhouse (after 25 years, it is closing Labor Day) in Davis was a particularly wonderfilled evening.

We are about to make the journey with Purple Mad and Grandma Helen to beautiful Oceanside to visit Mom and Dad Fukumoto, nieces, bruddas, Legoland, and much more! Should be another wonderful journey!!

But we hope to see many of you at the events listed in the Entotainment Update later this month, and as many of you as possible for the final DMDCAF 30 View Lane Event of the summer on September 1, 2002!!

Be strange, but don't be a stranger.

Candice y David
